Clinical Evaluations for Short-Term Disability (STD) & FMLA
There are moments when continuing to push through is no longer sustainable.
And if we’re being honest, it has often never been about sustainability for many of us—it has been about survival.
Even when circumstances remain unchanged, there comes a moment when laying down the cape and the “strong” trope becomes an act of wisdom. Not because resilience is lacking, but because the body and mind are signaling a need for care, rest, and protection.
This work exists for that moment—when mental health, work demands, and survival strategies collide, and something has to give.
My Lens as a Clinician
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have spent years supporting individuals navigating trauma, burnout, nervous system overwhelm, and the impact of high-demand systems on mental health. I am deeply familiar with the ways people—particularly Black women and other historically marginalized professionals—are taught to endure at the expense of their bodies.
Clinical evaluations for Short-Term Disability (STD) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) sit at the intersection of mental health care and institutional systems. This work requires discernment, ethical clarity, and the ability to translate lived experience into clinically sound documentation—without minimizing or exaggerating what someone is carrying.
My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in clinical integrity. I hold space for the reality of your experience while maintaining the professional boundaries required for this work to be done responsibly.
What These Evaluations Are (and Are Not)
I offer clinical mental health evaluations for Short-Term Disability (STD) and FMLA for individuals who need professional documentation to support a temporary leave from work due to mental health concerns.
These evaluations are not therapy. They are structured, time-limited clinical assessments focused on understanding how mental health symptoms are impacting daily functioning and work capacity, and on completing required documentation when clinically appropriate.
Is This the Right Fit?
This service may be a good fit if:
-
You are considering a temporary leave from work due to mental health concerns
-
You already have a therapist and need an independent clinical evaluator
-
You feel burned out, overwhelmed, or stretched beyond capacity
-
You want a clinician who understands both mental health and workplace systems
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as therapy?
No. These evaluations are not therapy and do not involve ongoing treatment. They are structured, time-limited clinical evaluations focused specifically on determining how mental health symptoms are impacting work functioning and whether documentation for Short-Term Disability or FMLA is clinically appropriate.

Do I need to already have a therapist?
Many people who seek this service are already working with a therapist and need an independent evaluator. If you are not currently in therapy, we can discuss whether this service is an appropriate fit during the consultation process.
Does completing an evaluation mean my leave will be approved?
Approval for Short-Term Disability or FMLA is determined by employers or insurance providers, not by the evaluating clinician. While the evaluation provides clinical documentation, approval is never guaranteed.
What kinds of concerns lead people to seek these evaluations?
People often reach out when they are experiencing burnout, anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, or nervous system overwhelm that is making it difficult to function at work. This service exists to help name and assess what is happening, not to minimize it or rush it.
How do you approach this work?
My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in clinical integrity. I take both lived experience and ethical responsibility seriously, holding space for the reality of what someone is carrying while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
