ABOUT KIMBERLY

“The greatest sources of our suffering are the lies we tell ourselves.”
(Bessel van der Kolk MD, The Body Keeps the Score)

Kimberly Reese is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist who specializes in treating trauma in Black people. Additionally, she is an expert on Black Agency, a Certified Enneagram Coach, and a Certified Clini-Coach®. Based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, she was raised in Durham, where she is a proud Alumni of the historic Hillside High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from Meredith College and completed her Master of Social Work at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is committed to shifting the culture of mental health for Black people by promoting and providing quality therapeutic and consultative services to men and women in North Carolina.

Kimberly has been in practice for 13 years, working in community-based agencies, and health, and non-profit sectors. Her specialization has been in trauma for the duration of her career. Rooted in her faith, trained in evidenced based models for trauma such as EMDR, ACT, and TFCBT and integrating somatic work into her practice with primarily Black clients, Kimberly brings a highly rare and rich skill set.

Opening and growing her group practice, The Reese Collective, has been her focus for the past 5 years.  Leading a group practice has afforded her the opportunity to expand her work to include community engagement opportunities; specifically pertaining to the intersection of mental health and The Black Church, self-care for Black people in white spaces, and increasing access to trauma-informed treatment models to the BIPOC community through her work is a founding Board member of MEND.

Through her line of work, she uses her forward-thinking, her Faith, and her love for the art of therapy to cultivate safe and transformational environments for each of her clients. Kimberly is described as purposeful, tenacious, dedicated to, and blessed by this work. Her practice is inspired by Matthew 17:20 which says, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

She carries her heart to inspire hope and healing with her in everything she does. For fun you’ll find her working on her jump shot on the basketball court, cooking with a glass of wine and vibing to some R&B, or doing her best to slow down and rest with a good book.  She is truly an example of what one can achieve when your heart is in the right place and your vision is divinely guided.
